Professional arboricultural and forestry services to support the overall improvement of the City’s urban forest health.

In 2015 the City of Burlington engaged Aboud & Associates to provide professional arboricultural and forestry services to support the overall improvement of the City’s urban forest health. The scope of this contract covered progressive updates of the City’s municipal tree inventory, tree preservation analysis for capital works projects, tree risk assessment services and other specialized services as needed. Aboud & Associates has been retained in 2021 to provide these services through 2025.

Throughout the term of these contracts, our ISA Certified Arborists, Registered Professional Foresters, and Ecologists have supported the City with many specialized services, including tree appraisals, legal opinions and nest searches under the Migratory Birds Convention Act. Most recently we have provided the City with its first Forest Management Plans for urban woodlands. To meet the City’s management objectives for these woodlands, our team conducted various field studies to establish baseline conditions. Forest inventory data were collected using prism sweeps at appropriate intervals to minimize the standard error according to the woodland size. These data were used to determine the general description of the woodlands, including their categorization and significance. Additionally, our Ecologists conducted botanical surveys (ELC Classification), Species at Risk habitat assessments, significant wildlife habitat assessments and a thorough review of background ecological sources of the woodlands.
