Nathan Joakim is a wildlife ecologist with over eight years of professional experience conducting terrestrial and aquatic field research and environmental consulting projects across Canada and the United States. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biology from Trent University and a Fish and Wildlife Technology diploma from Sir Sandford Fleming College. He is currently completing a Master of Environmental Science at University of Waterloo, where his graduate research involves wildlife monitoring, population modelling, and the application of machine learning tools to ecological datasets.
Nathan has extensive experience conducting standardized wildlife surveys across a range of taxa, including breeding bird surveys, nest monitoring, telemetry tracking, herpetofauna surveys, bat exit surveys, fish community assessments, aquatic invertebrate sampling, and habitat evaluations. He has participated in capture, banding, tagging, and relocation efforts for multiple species, including species at risk, and is experienced in implementing established field protocols under challenging environmental conditions.
His professional background includes both academic research and environmental consulting, with demonstrated experience in data management, QA/QC procedures, statistical analysis in R, and preparation of technical reports. Nathan’s field and analytical experience support the collection and interpretation of defensible scientific data for species status assessment and conservation planning.
